Certainly one the key element of being a Christ Follower is
honoring His word. We not only want to know it, but apply
it. We want to live it out in every area of our lives and
corners of our heart. This month we begin a brand new series
that will help us do just that. Its called The Story. It is
a 31-week adventure through the entire Bible in
chronological order. We’re going to have Sunday School
classes, bible studies and small groups to help you grasp as
never before how God’s Story fits with your story. This is
going to be a great adventure that holds great possibilities
for all of us. My prayer is that throughout this journey
we’ll see many lives profoundly changed by the Spirit of God
as our love for God and His people deepens as never before.

The
Bible is central to our faith, but many people are
intimidated by its scope and size. The Story gives us a way
to journey from Genesis to Revelation together in 31 weeks
so everyone understands God’s story and how their story
intersects with it.
The Bible is the best-selling book in history, but how many
people in Butler county are actually reading it? A Gallup
survey reports the average American household has four
Bibles. However, research by Pew Forum on Religion and
Public Life (2008) found that only 16 percent of Americans
read the Bible every day.
We are hoping to reverse this trend, starting with our own
congregation. Pastor Larry believes that The Story, a
Zondervan best-seller, is the right tool to increase
Biblical literacy, helping readers understand God’s story
from Genesis to Revelation and how their own stories
intersect with God’s. Consisting of 31 chapters of
carefully-selected scriptures sequenced in chronological
order, The Story presents the word of God in an engaging
format, reading like a novel.
We want the people in our congregation, as well as the
people of Butler County, to realize the incredible love God
has for them and how their story is found in His story.
The dream is for our whole church to read through the Bible
together using The Story as our curriculum. For 31 weeks our
children, teens and most of our adult Sunday schools will be
surveying the Bible. The sermons will also correspond. There
are even five different age related books (The Story, The
Story: Teen Edition, The Story for Kids, The Story for
Children, and The Story for Little Ones), so that the entire
church can be literally on the same page for 31 weeks. If
you haven’t yet become a part of our Bible Fellowship
classes, this is a great opportunity to do so. A sign up
sheet will be in the foyer.
The experience will begin at
Haverhill Christian Church on September 25th with an
introduction. We will begin the actual studies on Sunday,
October 2nd. Books will be available in the foyer. A
donation is requested/suggested to help cover our cost.

There are other media
available at most places selling the books, that
compliment The Story experience: Music CD, Audio Books, Reference Companion and
Story Curriculum Participant's Guide.
This is an excellent time to invite someone to visit
Haverhill; research has shown that many people-even those
with no church background-have reading through the entire
Bible as an item on their “bucket list.” This is a great way
to help them accomplish that goal.
